After a short delay, we can present to you the footage of DOCS gym being represented at KARE 11

Demo for the local Boy and Girl Scouts

Saturday, Oct 1st we will be taking a fun road trip to put on a demonstration for the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of this local area.  The Scouts live locally but the event will be at a great venue called “Camp Stearns” in Annandale, MN.  We will be arranging for car pools.
Show your Martial Art and also get an introduction to the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.  There will be activities.  There will be about 3000 Scouts there!  Mark your calendars please.  Exact times will be announced.

Demo at the Library

Next Wednesday, Sept 21st at the North Regional Library DOCS Gym will be putting on a Martial Arts demonstration.
1315 Lowry Ave. N., Mpls, MN 55411.  (Very close to the gym).
Short, easy demo.  After the demo we will return to DOCS to resume our normal schedule.  Tae Kwon Do, followed by Kids Judo at 6:00 pm, then adult / teen Judo at 7:00 pm, then Muay Thai at 8:30 pm.
If you can make it to the library before 4:00 that would be appreciated.  All skill levels welcome.  We leave from DOCS Gym at 3:30 pm if you would like to ride with one of the instructors.

Force Management: Introduction to Self Defense Class

Sunday, Sept 18th at 4:00 pm.  DOCS Gym will host “Force Management”.  The class is “An Introduction to Self Defense”.

True self-defense is about awareness & avoidance, not fighting or combat skills, yet many teach only combat skills as self-defense, the truth is the use of violence represents a total breakdown in your self-defense plan.

Although these skills are a very real part of most of our training programs, our focus is on staying out of danger, and then what to do once you are faced with it, including a variety of non-violent physical skills that can be used to reduce or remove a threat.

Only $35 per person, pre-registration required (on website)
Space is limited, so sign up today!

KARE 11 at DOCS, DOCS at KARE 11

Camera Man

Thank you to all the volunteer actors / athletes who participated in the filming of our KARE 11 T.V. commercial yesterday, 9-1-2011.  The videographer was very pleased with the results!  We had athletes from age 7 to 58 on the mat doing a wide variety of grappling, throwing and striking techniques all at the same time and looking skilled while having fun.  This will be aired during our live Martial Arts demonstration during the prime 9:00 AM hour on the KARE 11 Saturday Morning Show, Sept 10th, 2011.  Eric Perkins will be interviewing us live.  We plan to put a gi on Eric and have Kelly Haines demonstrate a very special submission hold on the famous celebrity.

During the Live T.V. interview we will be promoting the 3rd Annual Harvest Festival, which is the very next Saturday, Sept 17th.  Martial Arts live action will be on stage from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM that day.  Then there will be 3 live bands and lots of other great action on the corner of Penn Ave. N. and Lowry Ave. N. in Minneapolis.

KARE 11 and Harvest Festival: Mark Your Calendars

Saturday morning, Sept 10th, 2011:  KARE 11 TV News studio will have National and Olympic level Judo and Jiu Jitsu athletes from DOCS Gym.  Viewers can look forward to seeing fast action Judo throws and submission holds like strangles and joint locks that will make an opponent give up (or pass out!).  We may even see if we can get one of the KARE 11 celebrity personalities to put on a Judo jacket and belt and try it out!  Get ready to “flip-out” Eric!

Also that morning we will be introducing the 3rd Annual Harvest Festival on Penn and Lowry in North Minneapolis which takes place the very next weekend on Saturday, Sept 17th.  At the festival you will be able to see these same Martial Artists live and on stage for free and participate in all the fun of live music, a classic car show, a kids zone with face painting, artists, a farmers market, food and dozens of other activities.

Mark your calendars:  Be sure to tune into KARE 11 on Sept 10th and turn out to the Harvest Festival on the 17th.

Community Involvement Day – Volunteers Needed

“Community Involvement Day” takes place at Patrick Henry High School (Near DOCS) on Friday Feb 25th.  We have the wrestling room reserved and will be getting High School Students involved.  We will be showing them the sports that we do here at DOCS Gym.  Not just a demonstration.  The kids will be participating.  If you can contribute your time that day we would really appreciate it.  At this time we think that our time slot will be from 11:00 AM until noon but we need some people earlier as well.  This will be good for the community and for DOCS Gym.  Please plan to help teach if you can.  Be a volunteer!  Thank you.
